Summer Programs For High School StudentsThe Barcelona Experience
The group will arrive in Barcelona on July 1. A private bus will be waiting at the airport to transfer the group to the University of Barcelona's Sant Jordi residence hall. After arrival, students will settle in and then attend an orientation session. At that time, the resident advisers and instructors will distribute and explain the day-to-day schedule of academic and extracurricular activities, meals, and transportation. The staff will lead a tour through the neighborhood surrounding the residence hall and guide you as to where to find what you may need.
The address of the Sant Jordi residence hall is Passatge Ricard Zamora s/n, Barcelona, Spain 08017. The phone number from the US is 011-34-93-201-6600; the fax is 011-34-93-414-0806. Be sure to leave this contact information with your parents or guardians. Rooms will be assigned upon arrival in Barcelona.
All rooms have telephones on which you can receive outside calls and from which you can call the reception desk. Public phones are available outside the residence hall and telephone cards can be purchased at the reception desk. We recommend that students bring their own cell phones. Because computer access in the residence halls is limited, students are required to bring their own laptops. Internet connections are available in the rooms. You may also need to bring an AC adapter.
Resident advisers who are University of Barcelona students and have spent a summer working as RAs in the New York program will live with the students in the residence hall. They will be there to supervise and assist you and will organize extracurricular activities. Site Director Evelyn Tavarelli will also be lodged at the residence hall.
July in Barcelona is warm, so you should bring comfortable summer clothes and walking shoes. If you plan to use the fitness center, you should bring exercise attire and a swimsuit for the center's pool or for the beach on weekend field trips. Bed linens and one towel are provided. It is highly recommended that you bring a cell phone and it is required that you bring a laptop. Please be advised that you may also need to bring an AC adapter for any electronics.
Students should have access to a minimum of $900 in spending money. ATM cards are advised.
