Peter Richards Biography
Peter Richards is the CTO for the information technology group at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc., and is responsible for provision and support of the global technology infrastructure. Richards has worked in the financial services industry for the past 16 years. Prior to joining Bear Stearns in 2004 and assuming the role of chief technology officer in 2005, he was most recently a managing director and head of the core infrastructure group at Goldman Sachs, where he provided common technology services to the firm and oversaw a staff of more than 700 on three continents. During his tenure at Goldman, he also served as co-head of enterprise technology, head of platform engineering, co-manager of the equity derivatives development group, and manager of the Japanese equity warrant development group. Previously, Richards was a senior consultant in the advanced technology group of Coopers & Lybrand, was a lead technical design engineer and software engineer at the UK electronics firm Racal, and was a member of the software research and development group at Systems Designers. At Easams Ltd., Richards was part of a research group that concentrated on ballistics and advanced military studies. He began his career as a geophysical engineer at Schlumberger Wireline, an oilfield services provider. Richards received a B.Sc., with honors, in physics from Bristol University, U.K.
