Mark S. Popolano Biography
Mark S. Popolano is president of AIG Technologies, Inc. (AIGT), a member company of American International Group, Inc. (AIG). He is also senior vice president and CIO of AIG. Popolano manages AIG’s global information technology infrastructure, which includes the backbone of AIG’s extensive Internet and Web-based capabilities and data center infrastructures. He oversees AIGT’s data centers, where he is charged with enhancing global infrastructure, improving technology service levels, and increasing coordination in software and hardware purchasing. Additionally, Popolano is instrumental in developing business models that have established offshore IT captive service organizations. During his tenure with AIG, Popolano has pioneered new technological advancements and spearheaded projects ranging from call center technology and data warehousing to Internet sales and services, human resource integration and supply chain and vendor management. For more than a decade, Popolano has been a spokesperson for the insurance industry, addressing audiences worldwide on topics ranging from systems development for knowledge workers to leveraging information technology for competitive advantage. He has numerous board and directorship positions with several companies. He recently received the BearingPoint/Forbes Compass Award for Strategic Direction. Popolano received the Insurance and Technology Elite 2001 award, named one of the "Top 25 Financial Service CIOs in New York" by CIO Forum, and was listed on Crain’s New York Magazine’s Tech-100 list.
