Edwin Scholte Biography
Edwin Scholte is chief financial officer for the legal markets portfolio with Wolters Kluwer Law & Business, a division of Wolters Kluwer. Wolters Kluwer is a leading global information services and professional publishing company, headquartered in the Netherlands and trading at Euronext Amsterdam. In addition, Scholte serves as member of the statutory board of directors for Kluwer Law International.
In his current role, Scholte is responsible for providing financial leadership in growing a $200 million business that serves the U.S. and international law firm markets. He also assumes general management responsibility for the company’s litigation and bankruptcy portfolios. Scholte has a proven track record in initiating and leading business model optimization and growth initiatives, resulting in above market performance during recent economic challenges.
Before relocating to New York in 2007 to take on his current position, Scholte lived in Paris and Amsterdam, and was appointed in 2003 by Wolters Kluwer to director of finance and operations for Kluwer Law International. In this role, Scholte was responsible for the reversed carve out and subsequent integration of the Kluwer Law International business from an initial divestiture, as well as the acquisition and integration of the company’s core intellectual property portfolio which now holds market leadership in the global international law niche.
Before joining Wolters Kluwer in 2003, Scholte gained extensive financial and operational expertise while working in early stage incubator venture capital. As such he fulfilled various roles for FPI, a Dutch boutique firm. He also founded Upstream Ventures, which specialized in the acquisition and restructuring of payroll service contracts businesses.
He holds a bachelor of science in business economics from Haarlem Polytechnic, Haarlem Business School in the Netherlands, and an executive M.B.A. from Duke University, Fuqua School of Business, in the United States. Scholte was honored Fuqua Scholar by Duke University for exceptional academic performance.
