Andy Garlick Biography
Andy Garlick is senior vice president, business systems, for WPP Group USA. He is responsible for developing policies regarding financial, human resources, production, and other business systems in North America for all the WPP Companies. Prior to this assignment, Garlick was associate CIO of Young & Rubicam, Inc. He has been in the advertising and media industry for 19 years, working for Campbell-Ewald in the 1980s, and joining Young & Rubicam in 1993 as IT director for North America. Garlick spent the first half of his career in finance, including stints as treasurer of the University of Detroit and controller of Campbell-Ewald Co., where he built and installed a number of financial systems. Garlick made the switch from finance to technology in 1990. Garlick also has broad experience in the not-for-profit sector. He spent 10 years as a financial officer at the University of Detroit, he has served on the boards of the Catholic Youth Organization of the Archdiocese of Detroit and the Michigan Performing Arts (Youtheatre), and he is founding board president of the Family Support Organization of Bergen County. Garlick has been active in a number of organizations as a volunteer, serving on the Committee to Save Orchestra Hall in Detroit, and as an Allocation Panel Chair of the United Way for Southeastern Michigan. Garlick was instrumental in helping the United Way develop a strategic plan for the growth of technology in the nonprofit sector in 1996. Garlick is a recognized expert in the area of nonprofit (fund) accounting, and has taught nonprofit accounting at the graduate level at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Garlick holds certificates in college business management from the University of Kentucky-Lexington and in fund raising from the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Detroit, a B.A. in philosophy from Sacred Heart Seminary, and an M.A. in classical literature from Wayne State University.
