Alfred C. Schmidt Biography

Alfred C. Schmidt is vice president, information technology at Arch, Inc. He has more than 25 years of information systems experience, and is responsible for the leadership, planning, and strategy development of Arch’s information technology needs. Schmidt came to Arch Chemicals from Olin Corporation, where he was vice president, information technology. He joined Olin from Pitney Bowes, where he was executive director, operations and technology. He has worked for AT&T Bell Labs, including posts as a supervisor of graphics hardware, and as a commissioned officer with the U.S. Public Health Service in the Artificial Heart Program at the National Institutes of Health. Schmidt received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of California Berkeley. He holds an M.S. in engineering and a Ph.D. in applied physics from Harvard University. He also attended the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School. A recipient of 16 patents, Schmidt has lectured and written frequently on business reengineering, information systems, facsimile systems, integrated services, and digital communications.
