Nationwide there is an increasing demand for skilled and experienced professionals who can manage the development and deployment of technology across a broad spectrum of industries and who can leverage technology to improve core business performance.

Columbia’s Executive M.S. in Technology Management prepares senior IT professionals in any field or industry for executive positions by approaching technology from a business perspective, emphasizing the strategic issues that confront senior executives today. The multidisciplinary faculty is composed of industry leaders.

It is a 16 month intense, accelerated executive model designed to support the lives of busy professionals. Throughout the program, coursework is supported by a cutting edge online learning platform. Highly interactive online coursework allows students and faculty to communicate and collaborate through a unique social networking interface.

The program teaches students to evaluate the benefits of emerging technologies and apply them strategically in the business environment to improve core business performance. Classroom teaching incorporates students' relevant work experience, and instruction is enhanced by relationships with industry mentors, a unique and critical component of the program.

One of the unique ways the program prepares students for the challenges of technology leadership is through extensive, one-on-one, structured mentoring from an accomplished technology leader. Beginning in the second term, executive mentoring matches each student with a seasoned executive best suited to provide informed, individualized guidance for developing a master’s project idea into a complete, portable asset that can move any career forward. Typically students are selected by a mentor based on his or her interest in, or experience with, the topic, industry, or challenge proposed in their master’s project. The master’s project is developed over the duration of the program and is supported by monthly full-day executive seminars that take place on residential Saturdays. After each executive seminar, the student and mentor meet to review and discuss the project’s progress, address logistical business concerns, and develop presentation strategies.

Diverse industries and specializations are represented in every incoming class. Students are admitted as part of a cohort that moves through each phase of the program together, learning from each other as much as from faculty, mentors and guest lecturers.
