At Columbia, our Summer Sessions bring together students with a diverse set of backgrounds spanning the globe and ranging in age, each bringing unique skill sets. Courses run for both twelve and six weeks, allowing for intense study and the freedom to explore subjects that may not be accessible during the regular academic year or due to your own professional schedule. Summer Sessions bring together students from around the country and the world, allowing for a unique global perspective to the classroom. New students to Columbia’s urban campus will benefit from the world-class education facilities, the dynamic city life, and a community of driven students who are eager to pursue research and discovery with their classmates.

Students should plan on at least three hours of study time for every one hour of class. Keep in mind that introductory courses are at the 1000 level and advanced undergraduate courses are at the 3000 level. While many 3000 level courses may not list a prerequisite, students in the course may want to have some familiarity with the material from other courses. When planning an academic program, it is important to honestly assess all outside commitments, such as work, family, and even time to relax.
