Visual Arts
Drawing
Runs from the week of May 28 to Jul 05
Fundamentals of visual vocabulary. Students work from observation using
still-life objects and the human figure. Emphasizes the relationship of
lines and forms to each other and to the picture format. Materials used:
vine charcoal, compressed charcoal, pencil, pen, ink, and brushes. Class
assignments, discussions, and critiques.Course Fee: $80.00
Painting
Runs from the week of May 28 to Jul 05
Prerequisites: Students should have taken basic drawing or painting I or equivalent.
This class provides the experience of employing a wide range of figurative
applications that serve as useful tools for the contemporary artist.
Non-Western applications, icon painting, and the European/American
traditions are presented. Individual and group critiques. Portfolio
required at end.Materials Fee: $80.00
Printmaking
Runs from the week of Jul 08 to Aug 16
Introduction to the fundamentals of silkscreen techniques. Students gain
familiarity with the technical processes of silkscreen and are encouraged
to use the processes to develop their visual language. Students are
involved in a great deal of drawing for assigned projects. Portfolio
required at end.Course Fee: $125.00
Photography
Runs from the week of May 28 to Jul 05
An introduction to photographic tools, techniques, and the language of
photo criticism. Work includes camera operations and black-and-white
darkroom work, 8x10 print production, and critiques of student work.Course
