Office of Student Life and Alumni Relations
Students enrolled in the School of Continuing Education have access to campus facilities and resources.
Students in Master of Science programs and in Postbaccalaureate certificate programs have access to the Center for Career Education free of charge. General Postbaccalaureate Studies students must pay the Center's $200 fee if they wish to use its services.
University Housing
In general, School of Continuing Education students are not eligible for Columbia University housing, although limited campus housing is available for students enrolled in the American Language Program and the Summer Sessions.
Off-Campus Accommodations
The University maintains a registry of off-campus accommodations that lists addresses of available rooms and apartments, as well as summer sublets, in the neighborhood. Because accommodations are for immediate rental, these listings cannot be mailed, but students are encouraged to view the listings online.
Applicants must show a Columbia University identification card or an official letter of acceptance to be able to use this service. There is no charge for the service, and all financial arrangements are concluded between the applicant and the landlord. For an information sheet describing the Registry's services, write to the Off-Campus Housing Assistance Office (OCHA), Columbia University, 419 West 119th Street, New York, NY 10027. This office is staffed entirely by Columbia University students; hours vary from week to week. For office hours call 212-854-2773.
An official Columbia University e-mail account is provided to each student so that the University and school can send official communications to the student's University address. A Columbia e-mail account also allows access to the full resources of the Registrar and Student Financial Services via Student Services Online. Student account information, including monthly billing statements, is only available online through a student's University e-mail account. Columbia does not send out paper statements of account.
Students are required to activate their CU e-mail accounts before their first registration and to check their e-mail regularly.
Students obtain Columbia ID cards in 204 Kent Hall after completing the registration process. ID cards are required for use of the libraries and facilities of the University and may be needed for evening entrance to some campus buildings. Columbia University ID cards also provide free admittance to many museums in New York City and discounts on purchases in many local stores.

At Columbia University, the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is an important priority. Columbia’s campuses and their environs are safe and have a relatively low crime rate for an urban university.
The University is required by federal law to publish an annual security report containing information with respect to campus security policies and statistics on the incidence of certain crimes on and around our campuses. This information is available at the Web site for the United States Department of Education (http://ope.ed.gov/Security/search.asp); by requesting a copy of the report from: Campus Crime Report, Department of Public Safety, Columbia University, 111 Low Library, Mail Code 4301, 535 West 116th Street, New York, NY 10027; or on the Public Safety Web site (www.columbia.edu/cu/publicsafety).
