Commitment

IBC is an intensive program and interns are expected to make a consuming time commitment most days and evenings with limited scheduled time off.

Interns are asked not to take on additional employment or study during the internship and to refrain from making social plans for that period.

During the Practicum interns must abide by the same curfew as High School Program students (11:00 PM on weeknights and midnight on weekends) and are not permitted to have guests in the residence halls. Although not always possible, every effort is made to arrange for interns to take two nights off over the course of the Practicum.

Although interns establish a rotation of duties to ensure that everyone receives reasonable "off-duty" time, the rotation must remain flexible so that the supervision of the high school students is not compromised.

Interns are asked to abide by a set of behavioral guidelines, and Columbia University reserves the right to dismiss an intern from the program for failure to do so or for failure to engage seriously and actively in the program.

Interns are expected to strictly uphold the Behavioral Standards set forth for the high school students in their charge.

Upon their acceptance, all interns will be required to sign a commitment agreement.
