Mark McDonald
Mark McDonald works with business executives from around the world on issues of business architecture, business process, innovation, and social media. He is the co-author of the book The Social Organization: How to Tap the Collective Genius of Your Customers and Employees (Harvard Business Review Press, October 2011). He also co-authored The e-Process Edge (McGraw Hill 2000) and Architecting the Enterprise (TU Delft 2005). McDonald has authored numerous articles and studies on the application of technology to create business value.
McDonald is a Group Vice President and Gartner Fellow at Gartner Inc., a leading technology research and advisory firm, where he has authored multi-client studies on issues ranging from the annual CIO agenda to the application of social media and digital resources to business. Prior to joining Gartner, McDonald was a partner with Accenture where he was responsible for the Centre for Process Excellence. Prior to those responsibilities, McDonald was a release manager and solutions developer for Accenture.
McDonald is an active business educator and he has led classes and lectured at Oxford Said Business School’s CIO academy, University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin Madison –Grainger Business School, MIT/Sloan School, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Loyola University Chicago. He is Gartner’s patron at MIT/Sloan School’s Center for Information Systems Research (CISR).
McDonald graduated from Colgate University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics. He also has a Masters from Trinity College, Hartford CT in Economics and Finance, and a Ph.D. in Technology Policy Management from TU Delft in the Netherlands.
