Lynda Moulton
For thirty years Lynda Moulton has lead numerous initiatives in her mission to “Secure the Findability of Knowledge Assets.” Currently the principal consultant at LWM Technology Services, a consultancy dedicated to preserving the value in enterprise knowledge, she consults, writes and teaches on this and information management technology related topics.
Moulton lead the development of a cutting-edge software application for corporate libraries and information centers launched in 1980: BiblioTech and subsequently, BiblioTech PRO. In an era when turnkey software was not available, her company pioneered in delivery of this software application that installed automatically on VAX computers, complete with a user-interface ready for capture of metadata for institutional and published content, building internal taxonomies, and menu-driven search. It was widely adopted across major corporations, government agencies, professional services firms and non-profits for nearly 25 years.
During this period Moulton was active in the Special Libraries Association where she was instrumental in the formation of its Public Relations and Communications initiatives, and contributed to numerous professional development programs. Among her activities was co-authorship of the acclaimed Competencies for Special Librarians of the 21st Century, and tenure on the SLA Standards Committee where she reviewed NISO standards related to thesaurus development, automated indexing, and metadata development.
In addition to numerous articles and blogging on enterprise search technology for the Gilbane Group, now Bluebill Advisors, Moulton authored Data Bases for Special Libraries; A Strategic Guide to Information Management, Greenwood Press, 1991, and a chapter on Knowledge Audits in Knowledge Management in Practice, Connections and Content, Srikantaiah and Koenig, 2008.
Lynda Moulton was an undergraduate in physical therapy at Tufts University before earning a BA in English from Framingham State College, and an MS of LIS from Southern Connecticut State University. She was elected to Beta Phi Mu and has twice been honored with the distinguished alumnus award. Before launching her software company, Moulton worked as a special and technical librarian at the Connecticut State Library, Union Carbide Corporation and Arthur D. Little.
