Edward Hoffman
Dr. Edward J. Hoffman is founding director of the NASA Academy of Program/Project and Engineering Leadership (APPEL), He is responsible for the development of program and project leaders and teams within NASA. This includes the development and maintenance of a comprehensive program and project management competency model, training curriculum, consulting services for project management teams, knowledge sharing strategies, and research and advanced concepts. In this capacity, Dr. Hoffman works both within NASA and externally with leaders of industry, academia, associations, and other government agencies to establish priorities and enhance capabilities in program and project management.
Dr. Hoffman has written numerous journal articles, co-authored Shared Voyage: Learning and Unlearning from Remarkable Projects (NASA, 2005) and Project Management Success Stories: Lessons of Project Leaders (Wiley, 2000), and speaks frequently at conferences and associations. He serves as adjunct faculty at The George Washington University, and also has taught courses in project leadership at the University of Technology at Sydney, ESC-Lille, Drexel, George Mason University, and Webster University. He received the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal in 2010.
Dr. Hoffman holds a Doctorate, as well as Master of Arts and Master of Science degrees from Columbia University in the area of social and organizational psychology. He received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Brooklyn College in 1981.
