Kate Pugh’s Articles Published in Two Journals

School of Continuing Education, Aug 20 2012

Interim Academic Director, Katrina (Kate) Pugh’s article, “Sharing Hidden Know-How,” was published in the May issue of the Henry Stewart peer-reviewed publication, Journal of Digital Media Management. This article summarizes the elements of the unique conversation-based knowledge transfer process called the “knowledge jam.”

Pugh, the author of ‘Sharing Hidden Know-How’ (Jossey-Bass/Wiley, 2011), is also president of AlignConsulting.  She helps organizations leverage knowledge and intellectual capital through metadata strategy and knowledge-sharing processes.

According to Pugh, “being able to leverage and act quickly on knowledge is the key to competitiveness –whether in a for-profit business, a non-profit organization, a nation, or a network. For example, insights into better manufacturing processes could position an organization for cost leadership and business growth.”  Introduced to the students during their first Residency in the fall, Kate later teaches students how to facilitate the “knowledge jam” during their Networks and Collaboration Spring course."

An additional article, Making Big Data Smarter, also appeared recently in TDWI’s Business Intelligence platform.

In this article, Pugh shows how the same conversation-based knowledge sharing process is an essential component of organizations’ Big Data programs. In such programs, teams of professionals need to collaborate across diverse background to make sense of Big Data. (Big Data is also on the IKNS program docket, with a highly popular IKNS course to be taught again by Jeanne Harris during Winter 2013.)
