Jennifer M. Hudson is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Political Science at Columbia University. Her dissertation, titled “Bureaucratic Mentality: The Bureaucratization of Democratic Theory,” deals with the theoretical tensions and yet practical affinities between democracy and bureaucracy in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Concentrating on political theory and international politics, Hudson's research interests include theories of democracy and democratization, European politics, French and German political and social theory, religion and identity politics, nationalism, and immigration. Prior to coming to Columbia University, Hudson was a Fulbright Scholar in Freiburg, Germany, studying at the Albert-Ludwigs Universität. Hudson received her master's degree from l'Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris with a degree in political theory and international public affairs. Her thesis explored contemporary debates related to language politics in California. Hudson graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a B.A. in political science.
