Jan Mittan

Jan Mittan, CFRE, has over 20 years experience serving in nonprofit organizations. Mittan currently serves as vice president for development and communications at St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children, where she is responsible for a comprehensive development effort.  Mittan specializes in capital campaigns, board development, and strategic planning and communications. Prior to joining St. Mary’s, Mittan served as executive director of the Children’s Hospital Foundation at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center where she led a successful capital campaign to build the new state-of-art Children’s Hospital that opened in September 2004. Mittan built on the success of the campaign to grow the organization’s capacity through a strong annual fund and major gifts program. Mittan has also served as director of major gifts for the eastern division of the American Cancer Society; established the first development program for the Institute of Ecosystem Studies upon its separation from the New York Botanical Garden; and served as project director for an Upward Bound Program for college-bound disadvantaged high school students. Mittan is a frequent speaker at nonprofit conferences and workshops including serving as one of three invited speakers from the United States at the Institutional Leadership Retreat hosted by The Kresge Foundation as part of their 2006 ground-breaking initiative in South Africa.  Mittan serves on the board of the Columbia Fundraising Management Student Association. Mittan holds a B.A. in management systems from Buena Vista University and holds the credential of Certified Fund Raising Executive. Mittan is a member of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy.
