Joseph (Joe) M. Schwed

Joseph (Joe) M. Schwed is the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey World Trade Center Site safety director responsible for ensuring collaboration and coordination among Port Authority, Silverstein Properties and contractor safety teams involved in the Lower Manhattan World Trade Center Redevelopment.   Schwed has over 16 years experience in the safety, health and environmental (SHE) field in construction, chemical processing and product manufacturing.  During his career, Schwed has lead comprehensive safety audits of construction sites, chemical plants, and manufacturing facilities in the U.S., Australia, Asia and Europe.  The concern for the safety of the men and women working on mega-projects helped him to focus his efforts to develop and implement safety and health management systems, written operating policies and procedures for programs such as incident investigation, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, US-OSHA record keeping and numerous related areas.  In both the private and public sectors Schwed has managed the development and implementation of Internet based web programs to track incidents, manage safety performance and incident investigations, which include real-time metric reporting and dashboards.

Joe Schwed is a certified safety professional (CSP), an emergency medical technician (EMT) and holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering, an M.S. in occupational safety and health engineering and an M.S. in environmental science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
